A truck driver rescued a lost little girl who was wandering along an Ohio highway on Valentine’s Day.
Derek Flory was on a four-hour drive when he saw the young girl walking on U.S. 23, miles away from her home.
His work truck has multiple cameras and they captured the entire incident.
“Once I blared on the horn, the light went crazy. As I got closer, I found out that it was not a bicycle, and it was a little girl,” he said.
Flory pulled his truck over, flipped on his hazard lights and jumped out to guide the little girl off the highway.
“She came straight to me. I was able to get her into the truck and then pull up to a local business with a parking lot and that’s when I called the cops,” Flory said.
Scioto County Sheriff’s deputies were looking for the 12-year-old girl, who they say has developmental disabilities.
Flory said deputies showed up and told him that the girl’s grandmother had called them about 15 minutes beforehand about her going missing.
“So, luckily she wasn’t out too long for what we know,” he said.
Flory added, “It was literally the flashlight on the back of the phone. The scary part is if the light wasn’t on, I don’t think I would’ve seen her.”
Flory said he gets emotional thinking about what could have happened.
“I’m a father of two little girls and it definitely hit close to home because it’s one of those things that’s scary. It’s really scary,” Flory said. “I’d like to say God put me there at that time and place.”
The girl has since been reunited with her family.
